Endurance GB has today announced their team selection for the Alltech FEI WorldEquestrian Games 2010.

The selected team comprises:

Beccy Broughton-Booker - Java Sunlight or Tawmarsh Muharrem
Ros Clapp - Nazeeka
Janice Cockley-Adams - Roxane du bout du Monde or Khadidja du Pont
Christine Yeoman - CJS Gai Forest or L M Midday
 
 

The non-travelling reserves in alphabetical order are:

Charlotte Byrd - Arabah Firedance
Karen Jones - Macadamia
Sarah Rogerson - FFC First Csea Lord
David Yeoman - Haszar
Chairman of Selectors, Di Latham, said on behalf of the selectors and management team; “We are confident that we have a strong Team, with a vast amount of experience at International and Championship level, capable of competing against the best in the World for medals”.

Team member, Christine Yeoman, is already experienced at this level having been on the squad for the last World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Aachen and twice at European Championships. She has high hopes for the team this time; “I am really proud to be part of what I believe is an exceptionally good team.  There is a very strong chance of bringing back a medal this time”. 

Beccy Broughton-Booker is also delighted to have been selected; “It is always an honour to represent Great Britain in Endurance.  It is why I compete.  We have got a tough job to do but the team is more than capable of going out there and getting the job done.  I imagine the country will be grassy and fairly flat, so the race pace will be fast.  We will have to pull together as a team and use our professionalism”, she said.

Janice Cockley Adams is on good form having taken top places at two FEI international rides this year.  “I’m thrilled to have been selected to represent Great Britain. This has been my goal for a long time now and is the result of lots of hard work and sacrifices. I know that the team will all be focussed on delivering the best possible performances. We want to do our best for everyone in Endurance GB; so many people have worked to raise funds to help us get to Kentucky and they want to see British Endurance back at the top”, she said.

Chef d’Equipe, Liz Finney, says, “We have a top class team comprised of 5 riders who all have competed successfully in international rides on many occasions.  Their horses have all proved that they are capable of the speeds necessary nowadays to win team medals and we will be competing in Kentucky with a real chance of a top team position.  They have all worked really hard over a number of years as members of the British team squad, to produce well trained and very fit horses.

EGB members have been, and still are being fantastic in their efforts to raise funds towards the cost of going to Kentucky and can be assured that the team will make their efforts worthwhile”.

A World Equestrian Games includes the eight disciplines of dressage, eventing, showjumping, para-equestrian dressage, driving, endurance, reining and vaulting. The Olympic and Paralympic sports are generously supported by lottery funding via UK Sport but the non-Olympic sports including endurance, although supported where possible by the World Class Programme staff during the World Equestrian Games, do not receive direct funding for the event from the Programme.

A variety of central fundraising initiatives have been launched to help support the trip to Kentucky for all the British teams. These include an online auction with new exclusive lots added each month and the opportunity to buy Team GBR merchandise which ranges from clothing to recently launched silver and leather bracelets; generous donations are made to the teams for all items sold. The Games take place in Kentucky, USA from Saturday 25th September to Sunday 10th October with the endurance competition taking place on Sunday 26th September.

The horses competing in the endurance competition will be confirmed in due course.

Endurance is a competition to test the competitor’s ability to safely manage the stamina and fitness of the horse over an endurance course in a competition against the track, the distance, the climate, the terrain and the clock.
