John Paul Sheffield
International event rider, represented Great Britian at the Europeans at Burghley in 1997. JP started riding at SLRE when he was 6 years old and became stable jockey for the establishment when he left school. At 18 years he became the youngest BHSII. JP competed horses at all levels and was a regular member of the British Team. Oliver Townend
was stable jockey for 3 years from 2001 through to 2003. During that time he was leading under 21 years British Event rider and runner up the following year. He produced many young successful horses from Pre-Novice to Advanced winning at all levels. For the last 3 years he has been part of the Toggi Rising Stars Team (see links page) and last year was part of the European Team in Aachen Germany and is part of our BEF Elite squad. Emilie Chandler
The South Leicestershire Riding Establishment has been the backbone of support to my eventing over the years. Kenneth and Paul have given me endless time, advice and patience throughout; from a daily basis, to helping me at international three-day events in Britain and abroad.
Their professionalism and knowledge has enabled me to achieve many successes. Winning the Juior Regional Novice Championships, The Novice Riders Championships, Junior National title and Team gold, plus individual silver medals at the Junior European Championships. As well as awards such as Armathwaite Hall Rider of the future; Spillers Young Rider Award and the Lesley Bullock eventing award.
They have been at every 3 day event I've attended and almost every one day event - which shows their devotion to the sport and their pupils.
Eventing is a tough sport and there's always something to learn. It's good to have the back-up of such knowledgeable people.
SLRE is a hardworking but fun yard with a good atmosphere. It is centrally based which makes travelling to events easier whether North or South.
Emilie is no longer a resident student at SLRE and for the last few years has been working from home with her mother Yvonne Chandler at Moor Lodge, Blacksmith End, Stathern, Leicestershire. Emilie produces from Pre-Novice - Advanced and is a specialist at producing horses for the Burghley Young Event Horse which she has won on 2 occasions. Yarda Hatla
From the Czech Republic, has been based with us for the last few seasons. Yarda has had 3 horses to compete, all have won or been highly placed at International Events. Yarda's best horse 'Kyrenejalias Boy, was purchased through SLRE, qualified for the 2004 Athens Olympics Games where he finished 22nd. Yarda had not competed at Advanced or 3 start level before he based himself with us. |  |
Jo Preece
Has been based at SLRE for 4 years while she has been at Birmingham University, where she gained a 2/1 degree. Jo has combined studies and competing on the National circuit and has been successfully placed at 3 Day Events both in GB and Ireland. |
Helen Wilson
Is our present stable jockey although Helen joined us to become my Co-driver taking me to Clinics all over the country and to help with the British Eventing JAS series that I run with Andrew Hunter and Holly Farr. Helen has since built up a team of 5 or 6 horses ranging from Pre-Novice to Advanced. All have been very successful 'Tip Top Tiger' competing at Badminton and Burghley. We are now looking for a couple of more rides for Helen to add to her team, she is particularly good at Dressage and has a good eye for a stride. Helen is hard working and very competitive. |  |
